Hi everybody. My fuel pump may die anyday now and was wondering where

is access to tehe fuel pump to replace it? Is it under the backseat? Or

do I actually have to drop the tank? I had hell trying to remove the backseat

mat, it's clutched in pretty good and wanted to know for sure before

removing it. Any help will be appreciated.

Kind of rare that they fail. What trouble are you having and what tests have you done? One of the first ones would be to test if you are getting voltage to the pump....which means you would have to have found the access to the wires going to the pump.

 

I ran out of gas a couple of times which I've heard that's bad for the fuel

pump regulator because pollution gets in the tank. Every other day I get

a stalled acceleration and sputtering sounds from the back of the car. Like

it's struggling to get fuel.

 

You do not need a fuel pump.

Is your check engine light on?

Even if it is not go ahead and pull the codes using the 2 wire connector under the glove box.

And I like to ask an additional question. When was the last tune up done?

Does this happen only when the car is at normal temp and around 2K rpm's.

 

I've had the car for 2yrs and I've never had a tune up as long as I've had it at 140k miles.

I swear that spitting, coughing, sputtering sounds comes from the back trunk area under

the car. It happens at normal temp on any given day. I will check crispin is referring to

and will respond later this evening.

 

Yeah the fuel pump really isnt a fun job in the 94-97 accords. considering to do it right you have to take the gas tank off. Which if your from somewhere where it snows and salt is used its likely the whole underside is rusted and will make the job that much more fun.

 

I looked at the wiring and I am totally befuddled to what I am looking at lol.

I think I will take a chance and change out the fuel pump because it's the

original anyway, it's a 94 accord. And that loud sputtering sound coming

from the gas tank while stalling sounds like a faulty fuel pump to me. I will

take a chance on this! I've read someone say that it's an easier way besides

dropping the tank that you can access the panel from the backseat or from

inside the trunk. I completed this job with my 2001 corolla from the backseat

and it only took me 20mins lol. Please tell me it will be as easy with my

94 accord. All I did was lift up the backseat, had no trouble with the

corolla.

 

Not the way on the Accord, there is a hole where you can see the fuel pump, but not remove it. Unless you want to take some tin snips to the car and make the hole bigger you have to drop the tank.

 

It is not that simple on the 94 accord. You have to drop the gas tank to remove the fuel pump.
