Default 98 accord, no rev limiter?

I bought a 98 v6 accord recently, and this weekend was showing it off to friends, and ended up going to about 8.5-9k rpm.

Can anyone offer an explanation for this? Plan on taking it to the shop asap so maybe they'll be able to tell me.

Also how strong are the transmissions in these cars? How much to rebuild one if it went out?

Thanks.

The 98-02 V6 were known to have transmission problems. You would have to call around to find out how much a transmission shop would charge to rebuild the transmission.

You probably can save some money if you removed and installed the transmission. You would have to ask the shop about what they charge for that.

I don't know how the PCM handles the rev limit. I am not even sure if the PCM can be modified to change the rev limit.

The cost to have it rebuild is over 2 grands, also depending on your location.

is this a 5spd or automatic? if 5spd if you miss shift you can very well over rev the engine like you said.

automatic is impossible unless you put it in neutral and drop it
