HELP: Accord 95' EX, AUTO, with h22 or h23 motor
My mom just gave me her Accord 95 ex with a prelude engine swapped under the hood with auto trans (probably the accord stock trans).
It also has dc headers, a cold air intake and a fart can... i dont know if its the stock exaust system and the stock cat.
it probably has lowering springs with the stock shocks and struts so the car rides like a boat(or the stock springs have been cutted).
1st problem. I can't identify if the engine is a h22 or h23. can you help me with this.
2nd problem and BIGGEST awful problem: the car runs real bad... and when i push the throttle the engine bucks, hesitate, makes weird noise. when i drive it bucks like hell... im always worried to be left on the side of the road with a blew up engine.

I want to take the engine of this car and swap it in another smaller honda or a well maintened accord(body without rust) or acura cl of the same years since the cl is based on the accord.
I tried the car again before posting this and it ran great without any big problem... it does this when it wants... help!

H22 or H23?
In your first photo of the engine, look between the radiator hose & the header. See the engine mount? Right above the mount, there's a flat surface with the engine type stamped in. That'll say H22-something-something. Second line is the engine serial #.

Is your check engine light turned on when you are driving? If so, follow the instructions in the link below to get the engine error codes and post any codes on here. Use a thin paperclip or a piece of wire to short that connector.

Follow Jim's instructions on determining the H22 vs H23. I think the H22 is more common on accords. You can also find out what transmission you have by finding the stamp on the transmission. It is stamped near where the engine is stamped.

well it depends of the ecu???

It does depend on the ECU. I have no idea how the swap was done.
The problem that you may run into is that there may be no OBD2 connector in the car if the 95 accord wiring harness was used. Plus the H22 could have come from a pre96 prelude which is OBD1.
The 96/97 accords were OBD2, but they had the OBD1 two pin connector where you could still short it and get the codes. I would assume that prelude ECUs had that same backwards compatibility to get the codes.

odb1 cars didnt have a port???... i can get a odb1 code reader if it exists.
